The Clan Collective is an assembly of local, discerning craftsmen, each embodying the spirit of community. Inspired by the age-old expression that we are stronger together, The Clan Hotel partners with homegrown artisan, Chong Han San, to create impeccable spaces and experiences for our guests, complete with the warmth of Asian hospitality.

A collective identity yet uniquely distinct; Han San artfully tailors a fashion-esque ensemble true to the clan spirit.

Astute, passionate, and down-to-earth—these are the words we'd use to describe Han San. 20 years in the making as a fashion designer and 15 years specialising in bespoke menswear, the founder of Q Menswear is one of the nation's most acclaimed designers. But it is not the success that keeps him going; it is the ability to impact another person's life. Armed with a belief that how you dress influences how you act, his mission continues to be deeply rooted in helping others rise to the occasion.

"We may be individuals with our own styles,
but together we portray one spirit, one clan."

With his boutique set up along the streets of Telok Ayer, Han San witnessed an unspoken kind of camaraderie fellow shop-owners had despite their diversity. Neighbouring shops—such as shoeshine boutique, Mason and Smith, and other gentlemen’s wear shops—would often patronise one another; sometimes to collaborate, and other times to endorse or refer clients. This ardent sense of community evokes older tales of clan associations that imbue The Clan Hotel’s neighbourhood, where settlers sought comfort in the community and together, found a sense of kinship, discovery and new opportunities to succeed.

His friendship with John Chung (founder of Mason and Smith) is testament to that. Once an apprentice at Q Menswear, John showed passion and potential unlike others—potential that Han San was quick to nurture. Today, the student has become the master, and the duo share a genuine affinity that allows them to journey together as entrepreneurs and discerning craftsmen. Step into the Q Menswear, and you’ll find subtle nods to John still adorning the shelves of the boutique, with an array of Mason and Smith’s fine leather goods on display.

It’s in these relationships that Han San attributes his success, and why it is his mission to pay it forward. His experiences would also eventually influence the fashion-esque collection of uniforms our Clansmen now don.

"We found out what each person was comfortable wearing
and designed our uniforms according to their style."

Diverse, approachable, and with a dash of oriental flair. The Clan Hotel uniforms were made to exude the comforts of home all while looking stylishly professional. 20 unique designs, each tailored to fit and masterfully stitched by Han San and his team of tailors; yet collectively, an unmissable identity true to our clan spirit.
