Evoking childhood memories and family traditions for Lyn and her team, the Sesame Sablé decadently adapts a familiar flavour for the modern palate.
When a group of gourmands come together to reminisce childhood recipes and disappearing culinary crafts, a gastronomic revival comes naturally next. This trip down memory lane would also eventually sow the seed for Sinpopo Brand, a second homegrown name by Lyn Lee, who founded chocolate empire Awfully Chocolate.
Their mission? To dish up traditional flavours in new and modern ways that would excite the palates of a contemporary audience.
"We found ourselves constantly going back to our family heritage and traditions."
Paying homage to an era long gone, Lyn names the brand after an old-time bar in Katong, where Sinpopo Brand was first established.
Lyn's vision for Sinpopo Brand was never about fusion foods, but a commitment to stay true to heritage. This was their way of elevating the complexity and sophistication of old-school methods, despite their laborious process, over modern short-cuts. But just as one man cannot move a mountain, behind every item on the Sinpopo Brand menu lies a team of passionate 'foodies'-as Lyn would term themselves-experimenting on recipes they love.
Samantha, Brand Manager and more affectionately known as Sam, was one such person privileged enough to find herself in this family of enthusiasts.
From friends to family, the two share a close relationship after many years of working together.
Having met when Sam was only 21 years old, Lyn calls her 'the driving force of Sinpopo'. Armed with a shared passion to constantly bring new things to the table, the duo is a testament of kinship formed through trust and trial, just like the generations before us that The Clan Hotel Singapore continues to honour.
Empowered by camaraderie and spurred by the belief that heritage must be preserved and traditions celebrated, it's no wonder Lyn resonates with the story of The Clan Hotel. In many ways, both brands stand for bringing authentic experiences to a new audience; paying homage to an older generation while inspiring cultural appreciation in the younger ones.
"The attention to detail and emphasis on authentic experiences reflected our own values."
An addition to The Clan Hotel's welcome amenities, the Sesame Sablé is made from the freshest sesame seeds, ground until fragrant.
Take the Sesame Sablé that is a part of the hotel's in-room amenities selection for instance. Lyn's dedication to using real ingredients coupled with The Clan Hotel's ethos of bringing a taste of tradition to its guests culminates in an aromatic bite-size treat that carries a hint of nostalgia.
A prominent ingredient used in many Asian cuisines for its flavour and medicinal properties, black sesame is often found in celebratory dishes during special occasions. And in the case of The Clan Hotel, this centuries-old staple takes a lavish twist in the form of French butter cookies.
A wholesome complement to the hotel's signature Nanyang Ritual Tea, relish the comforting flavours of this collaboration during your next visit at The Clan Hotel.
