Every piece lovingly handcrafted by the Rough Beauty team; The Clan Soap Collection inspires mindfulness in the lives of busy city-dwellers.
Former nurse of 8 years, Chew Jia Tian founded Rough Beauty, a sustainable bath and body brand in Singapore
Leaving her nursing career behind, late founder Chew Jia Tian ventured into soap making after realising the gap in the market for sustainable bath and body products. Emboldened by the overwhelming support from her close friends and family, what began as a curious interest then grew into Rough Beauty — a name we know and love today.
Carrying on Jia Tian's commitment to encourage mindfulness in the lives of busy city-dwellers, her husband Ming and sister Fang have taken up the baton of this local business. In fact, the brand's ethos of paving the way for a greener planet one soap bar at a time has found itself a loyal following from both environmental advocates and those who simply seek to make simple changes in their lifestyles.
"We want to continue championing her life's philosophy into the brand."
Having seen Jia Tian do it for years, Ming and Fang now expertly collaborate on research and development, innovating new scents and products for Rough Beauty
Ming and Fang are no strangers to the lifestyle Jia Tian advocated for. As her husband, Ming had always enjoyed the beauty of simplicity at home; and Fang, almost inherently, shares many traits and convictions with her late sister. While they bring unique talents to the brand, the duo also found mutual understanding and unwavering kinship in their quest to keep the legacy of their beloved alive.
"Mindful experiences are weaved throughout The Clan Hotel, and we get to be a part of it."
These soap bars are lovingly handcrafted with botanicals sourced from around the world
When the opportunity came to bring The Clan Soap Collection to life, the team at Rough Beauty reached into the emotions different scents and textures can evoke in a person after a long day. With this, birthed the Relaxing Lavender, Refreshing Peppermint and Exfoliating Lemongrass and Eucalyptus soap bars found in the ensuite bathrooms of The Clan Hotel MASTER Series rooms.
Made with au-naturel botanicals, the Relaxing Lavender scent, for instance, is concocted with a nourishing tea-infused water — inspired by the use of tea leaves across the hotel's many touchpoints such as the Welcome Tea Ceremony and turn-down services.
Beyond a business collaboration, this collection reflects a shared appreciation for tradition, community and mindful living. It's a symbol of dedication to an articulate craft that Jia Tian championed fervently, that guests can now enjoy as they unwind in the comfort of their rooms.
