Drawing from Ivan’s Teochew roots and amplified by the locale’s heritage, The Orient Brew offers a taste of tradition.
After leaving his career as a designer, Ivan Yeo co-founded The 1925 Brewing Co. with his brother and uncle
Designer turned entrepreneur, Ivan is the head chef and co-founder of The 1925 Brewing Co., together with his brother Eng Kuang (more affectionately known as E.K.) and uncle. His F&B concept is, however, not your usual hole-in-a-wall restaurant and bar. Tributes to his grandparents can be found all over the brand—the year 1925 was the year his late grandfather was born; and signature beers like the Yellow Van Pale Ale was also inspired by the van he used to drive.
Weekend family potlucks were a thing he held close to heart. But while determined to uphold the legacy of his Teochew roots, Ivan also believes in using accessible ingredients to recreate these familiar tastes. More importantly, it is his vision to bring people together over good food, paired with good beer.
“Food is like a language; ever-evolving
and able to transcend generations.”
While Ivan oversees the food menu, E.K. is the true Master Brewer who creates the beer profiles of The 1925 Brewing Co.
Partnering with his brother—and the actual Master Brewer in the business—E.K., Ivan takes kinship just as seriously as we do. The duo hardly finds themselves in disagreement thanks to one key principle: Brothers first, partners second; something The Clan Hotel hopes to embody itself. More than a fleeting visit, a stay with us is designed to inspire a familial sense of belonging. Every detail is meticulously crafted to make you feel like a clansmen; one of us.
"Singaporeans are no stranger to Chrysanthemum Liang Teh
(herbal tea); it’s what many Chinese grew up drinking."
From ingredients to labels, many of Ivan’s creations are influenced by his Teochew roots
Created by the brothers, The Orient Brew is a casual drink like-minded folks can gather and indulge over spirited conversations. Concocted with familiar notes of white chrysanthemum—an ingredient used to brew herbal teas in almost every Chinese dialect group found in Singapore—The Orient Brew encapsulates a taste of Chinese tradition for those who know it well; and something new for those who don’t.
